I know ee is the default editor on FreeBSD, but never use it. The first thing I got a Unix machine is to compile Emacs on it.
However on the FreeBSD cluster I don’t want to waste the resource. So I’ll need to find some replacement. Jed is not available either. The good thing is, ee […]

Well, although I have no problem using IPod on my FreeBSD box, I got another question: my wife want to manager her IPod on her company notebook, which runs Windows and not allowed to install iTunes.
After some digging on the Internet, I found Yet another iPod manager. It runs on Max, Windows and Linux, and […]

Well this might be my last post about using IPod on FreeBSD, cause the last I concerned, for us non-English users only, how to “hard-encode” the subtitle to video files, is resolved
Most of the DVD rip tools will generate 2 files: an avi file, mostly xvid encoded, and a .srt file, which holds […]

Well I’ve talked about how to use IPod on FreeBSD, I haven’t talked about how to convert the videos to formats that IPod can understand, because, well, I struggled several days with that.
So here’s a short note about how to convert video to IPod on FreeBSD, as of 12/10/2006.
The credits goes to these web pages:

Where the “####” here means some digital. I’ve seen lots of these and delete them from time to time. And today I found this blog entry that explains why.

So I took the solution the auth offerd. However, as both […]

Like many console people I’ve set w3m as my man pager, i.e,
alias man=’TERM=xterm LC_ALL= w3mman’
when w3m is available.
However, there’s one thing bother me alot: whenever I quit the man page (from console, not within Emacs), w3m asks if I really want to quit. This is borthing.
So I finially turns myself to the document today. And […]

Well we’ve got an IPod video for my wife. And as I only have FreeBSD on my box, I’ll need to find a way to use it on FreeBSD. Fortunately, it’s the 6th generation and many people has posted their experience with generation 1~5, so it’s not that hard for me
There are 2 […]

When I started my PC today as usual, it complains that it can’t find my boot disk. (I have a 200G as boot disk and another 80G disk). I did a reboot, and now it complains “invalid partition”
“Fine”, I think, it must be the connector. Then I openned the box, cleaned it, up, re-connect the […]

Well I’ve been using bash since I first met the Unix world. I did some research at that time, maybe 7 years ago. And I know zsh is powerful at that time. However, zsh doesn’t support unicode, thus I can’t use Chinese, at that time. So I choosed bash.
However, things are changing recently. The newest […]
